Gay Marriage
Christ Church of Peace believes that all people are
created equal by our loving
Creator. Further, we believe that all tax-paying
citizens, regardless of sexual orientation, deserve full equal rights, including the right to enter into civil
marriage.
For too long LGBT people have been asked to be silent as
they are relegated to the status of second class
citizens. We have been intimidated and told we are not
equal and don't deserve to have our rights respected.
First they
came for the Communists, and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t a Communist.
Then they
came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t a Jew.
Then they
came for the Catholics, and I didn’t speak up, because I was a Protestant.
Then they
came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak up for me.
by Rev. Martin Niemoller, 1945
At Christ Church of Peace, we choose to be a "tool for social
change" as noted in our vision statement.
Vision Statement:
Christ Church of Peace will be known best for innovative ministry
in service to God, and will be the church of choice for all people
seeking a spiritual home. We will be a role model for others to
follow, growing stronger though diversity, becoming a tool for
social change.
Inspired by Know Thy Neighbor in Massachusetts and with their
help, we have launched
Know Thy Neighbor
Florida in a effort to provide meaningful access to public
information in order to promote open and meaningful conversations
regarding the anti-family, anti-equality Florida Marriage Protection
Amendment.
When Martin Luther King, Jr. stood up to his oppressors, he was
told that he was out of line, that he should know his place. But his
work some 40 years ago continues to make a difference. He believed
that separate but equal was not equal. And we have the same belief.
