Peace to All

Christ Church of Peace joins the
wider Jacksonville community in mourning the loss of this
blessed servant of the Lord. Many of you will remember
Father Wayne because he wore his "collar" whenever attending
CCOP this year, as late as two weeks ago. While we did not
call Father Wayne as our Interim Pastor, we were looking
forward to including his ministry gifts in our many outreach
programs. We are shocked and saddened by this loss, and
send love and peace to his family and friends. We also
rejoice in knowing he is perfectly restored and with the
Lord in Paradise.

SEE YOU IN CHURCH THIS
SUNDAY AT10:30AM!!
Are you looking for a church
you can call home?
You are welcome
here! Some
of the positive comments we've received on the Know thy Neighbor
Project:
"I, a Canadian
gay woman, am sitting here reading your website and all it's
inclusiveness with tears in my eyes. I enjoy such a bounty of
equality where I live and to know that my brothers and sisters
in your congregation enjoy some of that is overwhelming to me. I
have a friend in California who emails me continuously telling
me how jealous she is that I can marry my girlfriend and be out
at work and be who I am meant to be. When I read about the
injustices perpetuated upon gay folk in the States I am overcome
with such sadness for each and every person who calls themself
American. Today I followed a link to your site and have seen
what is really meant by "world leader".
Please accept my heartfelt praise and delight at what you are
doing for people in your congregation. If I lived in Florida I
would be seated front and centre, heart aglow and be joyous
along with all of you. "
Congratulations
for your courage in posting the names. I think everyone should
be free to express themselves but it should meet the test of
"sunshine". Justice Brandies said "nothing sterilizes like the
sun". I think that is a fundamental stone under the foundation
of religion. Good work.
Dear Pastor
DeBusk,
Thanks for your efforts to curb efforts in Florida to deny equal
rights to gays and lesbians. As a gay Episcopalian in Atlanta, I
am so frustrated when people use their "Christian" principles to
try and discriminate against me and other gay and lesbian
citizens, as the State of Georgia has tried to do (and may try
to do again in November). It is refreshing when true
Christ-centered people stand up for equality and take action in
such a thoughtful and deliberate manner.
I e-mailed Miles O'Brian this morning following your interview
and thought I would share that message with you:
"I am VERY disappointed with the manner in which you interviewed
the church pastor in Florida regarding the same-sex marriage
issue. I understand it is your job to be probing, but quite
frankly, I never see the media probe the far right with the same
tenacity you showed this morning. Your analogy of posting
abortion doctors' names or the Family Council's analogy of
posting the names of gay citizens doesn't hold up--those are not
matters of public record as are the names of people who sign a
petition in favor of a constitutional amendment. Our democracy
is about transparency, and anyone who signs a petition (or
votes, for that matter) has his/her name on public record.
"Furthermore, I am highly
offended by your question of "is this what Jesus would do?" I
never hear the media ask the far-right, Republicans, or George
W. Bush that question when they advocate limiting the rights of
taxpaying, law-abiding citizens. I hope you will show a little
more balance in your coverage of this issue in the future."
My thoughts and prayers remain with you and your congregation as
you struggle to do what you know is the right, Christian
action--opposing discrimination.
"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor
free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in
Christ Jesus." Galatians 3:28
