Welcome to Know Thy Neighbor Florida

Christ Church of Peace believes that all people are created equal by our loving Creator. Further, we believe that all tax-paying citizens, regardless of sexual orientation, deserve full equal rights, including the right to enter into civil marriage. And as such, are in agreement with our Florida Constitution.

"this is about supporting ALL families in Florida, straight and gay"

This is about real, tax paying people being denied fair access to equal rights. Civil marriage is a legal institution, and confers more than 1,000 rights to couples.

"So long as a law, ordinance or regulation does not grant unmarried couples the same panoply* of rights . . . it will not be affected by the proposed Amendment." From the INITIAL BRIEF OF FLORIDA4MARRIAGE.ORG Case No. SC05-1563 PAGE 16

"the constitution is supposed to
guarantee equal civil and political rights to all"

FROM THE CONSTITUTION OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA

PREAMBLE

"We, the people of the State of Florida, being grateful to Almighty God for our constitutional liberty, in order to secure its benefits, perfect our government, insure domestic tranquility, maintain public order, and guarantee equal civil and political rights to all, do ordain and establish this constitution. For too long LGBT people have been asked to be silent as they are relegated to the status of second class citizens. We have been told we are not equal and don't deserve to have our rights respected.

First they came for the Communists,
     and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t a Communist.

Then they came for the Jews,
     and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t a Jew.

Then they came for the Catholics,
     and I didn’t speak up,
because I was a Protestant.

Then they came for me,
and by that time there was no one
left to speak up for me.

by Rev. Martin Niemoller, 1945

Why are we doing this?

"the petition is a public record"

Aren't the names of petition signers considered private information?

That's a great question, and we wanted to be sure that we abide by all applicable Florida laws, so we contacted the Florida Secretary of State to be sure. Here is their answer, in part, "...(the petition is a public record with the exception of applicable exemptions such as the signature), nothing in the Florida Election Code or Chapter 119, Florida Statutes, applies to prevent the posting." - FLORIDA SECRETARY OF STATE'S OFFICE
